Samsung has introduced the Galaxy S22 series, with camera upgrades and glass cases for the S22 and S22+, while the S22 Ultra is a touch in every way but the name

The Galaxy S22 series is Samsung’s latest range of flagship smartphones, with three new models topping the company’s line of non-foldable phones. not bad, to be fair: the S22 Ultra is a bit more radical, with a new design (and features) heavily inspired by Samsung’s now-defunct Galaxy Note range. With all three phones now available worldwide, you’ll find everything you need right here. You must know about of each Galaxy S22 model.

When will the Samsung Galaxy S22 be on sale?

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S22 series alongside the Galaxy Tab S8 series at a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 9, 2022, and all three phones are now on sale.

What are the specifications and design of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series?

There are many innovations in all three phones, along with many differences between them. To keep things simple, we’ve broken them down by model. If you’d rather watch (or listen) than read, I’ve also covered the differences between the three phones in depth in this episode of our weekly Fast Charge Podcast:

Galaxy S22

Let’s start with the main model of the series: the standard S22.Galaxy S22. In terms of design, it looks fairly similar to last year’s S21, with a familiar shape and roughly the same camera layout. The big difference this year is that the back of the phone is now glass instead of plastic: Samsung’s exclusive Gorilla Glass Victus+, to be precise. It comes standard in black, white, pink and green, but if you order from Samsung’s website you can also get it in graphite, cream, purple or sky blue. One thing we’ve been hoping for is the possibility of Samsung offering customizable colors for the S22, similar to the options available for the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s Bespoke Edition. There’s no sign of that just yet, but maybe it will Samsung will expand that offering if it’s successful…maybe a few months after the release of the S22. On the front you’ll find a 6.1-inch AMOLED screen, which is slightly smaller than last year’s model. Otherwise it’s similar, with an FHD+ resolution and support for scaling the dynamic refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz.As expected, the screen includes an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

In some markets (including the US) the S22 – and indeed the other S22 phones – will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while Europe and elsewhere will get Samsung’s own Exynos 2200. Both are 4nm chips with Armv9 architecture and are said to deliver largely comparable performance. The Exynos supports some additional graphics features, including ray tracing, thanks to support from AMD, but it’s unclear how much these will be supported by the S22 anyway. Whichever version of the the phone you get, it will be paired with 8GB of RAM and a choice of 128GB or 256GB of storage. As for the battery, the regular S22 has a capacity of 3700mAh, a small drop from last year.Supports wired charging with speeds up to 25W and wireless charging up to 15W. Finally, let’s get to the camera where we make some big improvements.

The main camera is all new, with a 50MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture that supports dual pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS). , f/2.4, 3x telephoto zoom lens that also supports OIS.On the front you will find a 10 MP, f/2.2 selfie camera. The main camera and the telephoto lens are the two big upgrades. After pixel binning, the former has pixels that are 23% larger than its predecessor. The telephoto lens replaces the 1.1x 64MP zoom lens the company has used for the past two generations and crops to replicate the zoom.In addition to hardware changes, software and algorithmic changes should improve low-light performance and video on the lenses. New Adaptive Pixel technology also lets you capture better full-resolution photos when you need them, by combining full-resolution 50MP capture with the depth of color detail and pixelated brightness of 12MP capture. and a fifth year of security patches: even more updates than Google promises for the Pixel 6.

Galaxy S22+

Now let’s turn to the S22+, which shares many of its specs with the standard S22, along with essentially the same design, including the same color gamut.

The big change, of course, is that the S22+ is larger. Its screen measures 6.6 inches diagonally (in fact, it’s slightly smaller than that of the S21+) and as a result, the phone is bigger, wider and heavier, but thankfully not thicker. The core specs are exactly the same, but the larger size helps stow a larger 4,500mAh battery. It can also charge faster, with wired speeds up to 45W.Finally, the connectivity is also a bit different. The S22+ supports Wi-Fi 6E while the regular S22 only has Wi-Fi 6. The Plus model also offers Ultra Wideband (UWB), the technology that powers trackers like the Apple AirTag or Samsung’s own Galaxy SmartTag+. We tested the phone ourselves, so read our Galaxy S22+ review to find out how we rate it.

Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Ultra model is always a little different from the others, but Samsung really pushed it to the limit this year.

The S22 Ultra really doesn’t look like the other two phones, with different colors, a different shape and a completely different camera module. In fact, the design is more similar to 2020’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with rounded sides. and square top and bottom borders. In fact, it looks so similar to the Note 20 Ultra that it’s also compatible with the S Pen stylus and even has space for the stylus to insert into the phone. The camera module is an all-new , though, with the rear lenses sitting almost flush with the body in discrete circles rather than in a larger camera island. The S22 Ultra comes in white, black, green and an exclusive burgundy finish. while the Samsung online store also offers it in graphite, sky blue and red.As before, the Ultra is larger than the other models. It’s bigger, wider, thicker and heavier, thanks in part to a spacious 6.8-inch screen. Not only is it larger than the screens of the other two phones, it also has a higher resolution at QHD+ and improved refresh rate technology that can be slowed down to just 1Hz if needed to save battery. Galaxy S22 Ultra screenThe chipset is the same so there won’t be a huge jump in performance compared to the other two models, and this year even the starting RAM is the same at just 8GB. This version comes with 128GB of storage, but if you jump to 12GB of RAM, you also have the option of 256GB, 512GB, or even 1TB of storage. The battery is also larger with a total capacity of 5,000 mAh. Charging is the same as the S22+, with 45W wired and 25W wireless, and like that phone it offers Wi-Fi 6E and UWB connections. Size and design aside, the main changes to the Ultra are the camera, though interestingly, it has undergone fewer changes compared to the S21 Ultra.Galaxy S22 Ultra Camera The main configuration is basically the same, with a 108 MP main camera, 12 MP ultra-wide angle and two 10 MP telephoto lenses with 3x and 10x zoom respectively. The 40 MP selfie camera is also essentially the same. However, these specs are a bit misleading as there have still been hardware changes. Most important is the main camera, which uses a new 108Mp sensor. This is larger than last year’s and offers improved performance, especially in low light conditions. The S22 Ultra also features the same algorithmic tuning and Adaptive Pixel technology as the other phones, along with some unique telephoto enhancements that have noticeably improved results at high zoom levels. It should be noted that at the time of writing, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is number one on our list of best camera phones, so it already gets most things right.
